Let’s talk about the elephant in the room. The lash industry has a major problem, and it’s time someone said it out loud: most people shouldn’t be educators.
Every single week, I get messages from lash artists telling me, “I learned more from your TikToks than from the $2,000 class I paid for.” It’s heartbreaking—and infuriating. How did we get to a point where people are spending thousands of dollars for training that leaves them with more questions than answers?
And if that wasn’t bad enough, let’s add insult to injury with the rise of cringy $20 lash trainings on TikTok. It’s a full-on money grab, and it’s killing the industry.
The Problem: Mastering Lashes ≠ Mastering Teaching
Let’s get one thing straight: just because you’re great at lashing doesn’t mean you’re qualified to teach. Teaching is a skill in and of itself. It requires patience, structure, and—here’s the kicker—a real desire to see your students succeed.
I’ve been a homeschool mom for 14 years. I know how critical it is to adapt your teaching style to fit the student in front of you. My oldest daughter is proof of that—she just got accepted into a top university with a presidential scholarship. That didn’t happen because I threw generic worksheets her way. It happened because I took the time to understand her learning style and tailored my teaching to her needs.
The same principle applies to lash education. Real teaching requires you to break concepts down, accommodate different learning styles, and ensure your students leave equipped with the skills and confidence they need to succeed.
Unfortunately, too many lash educators don’t get this. They assume throwing together a PowerPoint and handing out certificates is enough. Spoiler: it’s not.
The $20 TikTok Trainings
If the poorly structured $2,000 classes weren’t bad enough, now we’ve got $20 TikTok trainings flooding the industry. These are nothing more than a quick cash grab, and they’re leaving aspiring artists worse off than before.
Here’s the truth: you can’t teach someone how to lash, let alone build a business, in a $20 course. These trainings are shallow, rushed, and often full of incorrect or outdated techniques. Worse, they don’t even touch on critical topics like client retention, safety protocols, or business strategy.
But they’re not just a waste of money—they’re a waste of time and potential.
The Fallout: Frustrated Artists and a Devalued Industry
What happens when someone spends $20 on one of these courses?
- They get incomplete training that leaves them confused.
- They lack the foundation needed to actually start their business.
- They lose confidence in themselves and question if they’re cut out for the industry.
Meanwhile, these $20 courses devalue the entire education space. They create a false narrative that lash education is cheap and easy, undermining the work of real educators who pour their hearts into delivering quality training.
Why My TikToks Are Filling the Gap
Here’s the reality: too many lash trainers are more focused on making money than creating results. That’s why so many lash artists turn to my TikToks for guidance. My free content has become a lifeline for artists who’ve been let down by overpriced or underwhelming classes.
But this isn’t sustainable. The solution isn’t for TikTok to be your teacher—the solution is for the industry to raise its standards.
A Call for Accountability
To every lash educator out there: stop and ask yourself—
- Are you in this to truly help others, or are you just looking for another revenue stream?
- Do you know how to teach, or are you simply good at lashing?
- Are your students leaving your class feeling confident and capable, or are they left searching YouTube and TikTok for the answers you didn’t give them?
And to every aspiring educator: if you’re not willing to put in the work to be an excellent teacher, please, don’t do it. This industry doesn’t need more money grabs—it needs more integrity.
My Commitment to Change
As someone who’s trained thousands of lash artists in every continent of the world, with 5 star reviewed online and in person trainings, built a top-rated salon, and helped countless students launch their careers, I’m here to set a new standard. Teaching is about empowerment, not exploitation.
To the lash artists who’ve been burned by bad education: don’t lose hope. And to the educators who are in this for the wrong reasons: step up—or step out.
Let’s stop accepting mediocrity. Let’s stop turning a blind eye to the money grabs. And let’s raise the bar for what it means to be a true educator in the lash industry.
The floor is yours. Drop your thoughts below, and let’s have the conversation this industry desperately needs.

When Rosa mentions that teaching lash artistry requires patience, structure, and a genuine desire to see your student succeed, she absolutely nailed it. That is exactly what this industry lacks.
The primary goal of an instructor should be to guide the student to success—both in the classroom and in their careers.
Unfortunately anyone who believes
their craft and strategies are only worth $20 likely will not share that same goal and mindset.
Students should approach lash training with genuine willingness to learn and commitment to improvement. Investing just $20 in something as critical as your career choice can be unmotivating and unreliable. In contrast, well-structured lash trainings led by educators who
value accountability and integrity are far more likely to create meaningful results. These programs motivate students, boost confidence and accelerate growth.
It’s shocking to think that some lash trainings priced at $2000 don’t cover fundamentals such as lash mapping, creating handmade fans, or building client retention. Those are building blocks essential for a successful lash career and shouldn’t be overlooked.
The lash industry is undeniably lucrative, but that doesn’t mean everyone involved has the right intentions. I love that this blog addresses that issue and calls for higher standards. I hope we can all strive to make our industry as valuable, ethical and sustainable as it deserves to be.
I love this!!! Hope your gonna do this more.
Good thing i dont have to worry about wasting money and dealing with these not very good Educators and their courses because i started with the best Educator out there with my first shot!!! Thanks Rosa for all you do and the amazing stuff you put out.
💯 As a lash educator, I have had several students take my course due to lack of proper training from a previous course!
I’m with you on that the $20 trainings are just a money grab and messing up the industry. It’s sad that people will just throw whatever out there and prey on people who really want to change their lives. You haveeee to do the research and make sure who you’re investing in is worth it and provides a lot of value. If they don’t give much value for free they sure enough not giving you much when you pay.
This is pure GOLD! I couldn’t agree with you more. As a formally trained educator with thousands of hours of teaching experience and a degree in Eduction this hits home. Nothing feels better than making a true connection with a student and teaching them in their own learning style to help empower them and grasp concepts. Rosa thanks for bringing light to this topic!
